The top 3 best-selling cars in Japan are all small boxy types

The Japanese have a penchant for all things small even when it comes to cars.

Affordability, decently comfortable are some of the reasons behind the increasing love for small boxy cars – not to mention the low tax and insurance liabilities.

Case in point –  Honda Motor Co.’s N-Box minivehicle remained the best-selling new car in Japan for the ninth straight month in May, selling 13,967 units, according to automobile industry data.

Toyota Motor Corp.’s Yaris subcompact came second and Daihatsu Motor Co.’s Tanto minivehicle was third, both unchanged from the previous month.
