TF Cover 1bTokyo families magazine was founded by a couple and former Tokyo residents, Allan Wilson and Carin Smolinski who, together with a team of eager writers and contributors, launched the first issue in March 2005.  

Tokyo families started as a free bi-monthly lifestyle magazine to help families make living in Tokyo,  easier to navigate.

In 2008, the publication changed hands.  A team of  long-term residents took over to continue its mission of helping families to navigate the day-to-day life in the city and appreciate the beauty of this lovely place we all call home.

What began as a bi-monthly magazine quickly evolved into a  monthly English publication with  new sections and columns added to the mix, for good measure.  In the same year, the circulation ramped up to 10,000 copies in order to  reach more families in the Kanto region. Today, its print edition alone reaches an average of 30,000 parents every month with a growing number of subscribers. Tokyo families’ s re-designed  website is fully responsive,  reaching more tablet and smartphone users than ever before.

Tokyo families magazine is a free publication distributed monthly to 300+ locations throughout Tokyo and Yokohama and  is 100% supported by loyal readers and advertisers.
