Nourish the body with greens and fruits

Eating fruits and vegetables purifies and heals the body from summer fatigue of the mind and body.

But do you give what goes into your salad a thought?

A good salad can be a complete meal in itself if it contains the essential nutrients that hydrate and nourish the body. Never underestimate what a bowl of fresh greens can do for you. It supplies essential vitamins A, C, and K to the body for bone health and to strengthen the immune system, promote sleep and boost skin moisture as well.

Pregnant women should look into eating more rocket lettuce which contains a lot of folic acid. Iceberg lettuce which is very common in Japan is also but it contains the lowest nutritional value of the green family.  However, it can help regulate your blood sugar levels and reduce symptoms of colitis and gastritis.

When fixing a nutritious salad for your family, toss in some red radish when you can because they do help stimulate the production of the bile keeping your liver and intestines in tip top form. When cutting cucumbers, resist the temptation to peel it because most of the potassium and phosphorous are found on the skin. Just don’t cut them in big chunks. Notice that most Japanese restaurants slice them very thinly and for a good reason. It takes time to digest it.
