Bumps and grind

LA’s Pop Tarts, it would seem, are graduating from dressing their Chihuahua’s in designer brands and collecting DUI’s, to dressing their babies in the latest high-end kiddy couture and living more responsible lives (with the exception of Britney Spears of course).

Take Nicole Richie for example. The adopted daughter of  Lionel Richie has reputedly been in psychotherapy since she was three and since her role as Paris Hilton’s partner-in-crime in the TV reality series “The Simple Life”—a show where basically the two mega-icons descend on a number of unsuspecting country towns, families and businesses and basically wreak utter havoc —Nicole, as a bona fide “It Girl,” has rarely been out of the press. From rumors of anorexia, bulimia and drugs, to the star being caught driving drunk the wrong way down a freeway, it would hardly seem possible that Nicole would ever become “mother material.”

However, on January 11th 2008, notorious Nicole gave birth to a beautiful 6lbs. 7oz. girl whom she and boyfriend, Joel Madden (of pop-rock band “Good Charlotte” fame), named Harlow Winter Kate Madden and what a difference having a baby can make:“She gives life a whole new meaning and a whole new purpose,” Nicole tells People Magazine. “I’m ready to move on from my days being a wild child,” she states with the conviction only a dedicated mother can understand.

As Nicole was entering motherhood at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA, so was another young girl with something of a “reputation” also becoming a young, celebrity mom—just two doors down!

New mom Christina Aguilera, known as much for her soulful vocal ability as she is for her skimpy outfits, raunchy stage shows and ever-changing image, has been the center of a number of controversies, mainly surrounding her appearance and her public spats with other celebrities.

In 2003 the pop princess was in several public feuds with other musicians including punk-inspired Pink who had worked with her on “Lady Marmalade.” The singer mocked Aguilera on stage by using a blow-up doll during her tour. In addition the capricious Kelly Osbourne was quoted as saying Aguilera was, “One of the most disgusting human beings in the world,” and proceeded to spit on Aguilera’s car. The spat continued later that year at the MTV Europe Awards that Aguilera was hosting , with the latter seen throwing darts at a picture of Kelly during the telecast).

Christina’s life was soon to do an about-turn when, during the Washington leg of her recent “Back to Basics” world tour, she found out she was with child. Not wanting the press to harass her she decided not to tell the media. Paris Hilton, seemingly not privy to the secrecy surrounding Christina’s pregnancy, announced it to the world at an MTV Video Music Awards pre-party towards the end of last year.

Some 11 months on, Christina and baby boy Max Liron Bratman (meaning “our greatest song” in Hebrew) are doing extremely well and mom is looking in superb shape—something she, a renowned fitness freak, attributes to simple breastfeeding. She is also very quick to point out she’s not fixated on shifting the pregnancy pounds and won’t start her training routine until her doctor gives the all clear.

When asked about her future plans of returning to the studio to record another album, Christina says that the whole process of motherhood has really gotten her creative juices flowing!
