Sumida River Fireworks Competition

After a four-year hiatus, Japan’s oldest fireworks event  – the Sumida River Fireworks Competition returns to Asakusa this year for its 46th –  with a bang.

The event traditionally held in two venues is celebrated on the last Saturday in July. The first venue (from Sakurabashi to Kototoibashi) kicks off at 7 pm on July 29, 2023 with 9,350 spectacular pyrotechnical effects. The second venue which starts 30 minutes later will release as many as 20,000 shots from Komagata bridge stretching up to Umayorbashi.
