TELL addresses the issue of sexual violence in Japan.

By on April 15, 2024

TELL  joins forces with the Koyamada International Foundation Japan (KIF Japan) and the International Aikido Federation (IAF) for a groundbreaking collaboration as part of a “Guardian Girls Aikido” project in Tokyo.

This unique event is aimed at tackling the pressing issue of sexual violence in Japan.

Two hundred people are invited to join in a combined programme challenging body and mind. A panel discussion brings together local experts to address various aspects of the problem of sexual violence in Japan.

This will be followed by the Guardian Girls™ Aikido Seminar, an interactive Aikido exercise led by female Aikido Black Belt instructors from the Aikikai Foundation, the parent organization of IAF, where 60 adult female participants can learn and practice some basic Aikido-based self-defense techniques.

“We want to address the issue of sexual violence in Japan head on. We want to educate, advocate for change, empowering victim-survivors regardless of their Japanese language ability,” says TELL.

What is the Guardian Girls™?

Founded by the Koyamada International Foundation (KIF) in 2019, the Guardian Girls™ is a global gender-based violence prevention and response program that empowers adolescent girls and women to defend themselves from all forms of violence through sports and martial arts training. The program is administered by the Guardian Girls International (GGI) at a global level and has been launched in 15 countries since 2022. In Japan, the Guardian Girls Japan program, including its projects like “Guardian Girls Aikido” and “Guardian Girls Karate”, is diligently overseen by KIF Japan, spanning the nation and implemented in collaboration with diverse partners.
