A collection of 240 art prints on Spain spanning 400 years from the 17th to the 19th century, will be exhibited at the National Museum of Western Art from July 4 until September 3, 2023.

These images with themes of flamenco, bullfights, and Don Quixote were all taken by travelers who visited the country in the 19th century.  In the wake of the Industrial Revolution, the production of pictures was very popular that has made making replica prints in Spain a hobby.

Images printed in multiples by a variety of processes were circulated in newspapers, journals, magazines, and books that proliferated at an astounding rate.

Artworks by renowned artists on display at the exhibit include that of Francisco José de Goya, Pablo Picasso, João Miro, Salvador Dali, etc., as well as Eugène Delacroix and Edouard Manet.  These artworks reveal British painters and Lance’s love of printmaking as a Spanish hobby.

Valencia-born Joaquin Sorolla’s “Water Drinking Pot” oil painting newly collected by the National Museum of Western Art in 2022, will be on display to the public for the first time. The “Watering Jar”  was selected as a Spanish commemorative stamp on Sorolla’s 100th birthday.
