Glamping and grilling in the city

By on April 20, 2023

Grilling in the city, especially one as dense as Tokyo, can get a little complicated. Most (if not all) rented apartments rarely allow tenants to grill and chill on for not wanting to annoy smoke-sensitive neighbors .

This doesn’t mean your wish to grill is impossible.

If your idea of fun is getting together with friends or family to charcoal grill with a touch of style atop a building, the newly opened ‘Wild Beach Shinjuku’ on the rooftop of Lumina East Shinjuku shopping complex, makes the perfect outdoor alternative.

Wild Beach Shinjuku is a pop-up facility with a view more urban than your typical campsite. Being surrounded with nature (greenery and white sand) brought atop the building, grilling and picnicking in the spacious facility with 550 seats can feel (almost) like being at a resort.

Whether you want to catch up with other families you haven’t seen in a while or digging into a movie or podcast, the facility’s 5 corners will help you do just that. It has a private cozy room suitable for family celebrations (with limited seating), circular sofas ideal for couples, and glamping domes.

The place gives guests the option of bringing in their food to grill or ordering from a menu which includes Tomahawk bone-in rib eye cut steak and Kuroge Wagyu sirloin. The facility includes a beer garden with 55 kinds of drinks.
