To mask or not to mask after March 13 is up to you says Japan.

By on February 13, 2023

The Japanese government issued a statement Friday that it will leave the wearing of mask (indoors or outdoors) up to the individuals’ discretion when  COVID-19 rules are officially relaxed on March 13.

It will however continue to recommend commuters to wear masks specifically inside crowded trains, shinkansen and buses,  as well as in hospitals and care facilities for the elderly.

Starting from the start of Japan’s academic year on April 1, the rule requiring students to wear masks to school will be lifted. Students will also be able to attend school graduation ceremonies without wearing masks before April 1.
