By on December 4, 2022

A survey conducted by the National Center for Child Health and Development revealed on Saturday that about half of pregnant women in Japan are concerned over the side effects of COVID-19 vaccinations and are reluctant to take action.

“We want pregnant women to decide whether to get novel coronavirus vaccine shots based on accurate information to prepare for a possible eighth wave of infections in Japan,” an official involved in the survey said.

The online survey made in the summer of 2021 includes 10,000 women, including pregnant women – of which 7,327 had valid concerns.

Around 51.1% of these respondents do not want to receive vaccinations or they plan to decide only after seeing further developments.

In contrast, those who have not received COVID-19 shots but wish to be inoculated accounted for 35.6% of pregnant women.
