E-kickscooter users return to the streets of Tokyo

By on September 5, 2022

We will start to see the return of electric kick-scooters around Japan.

Thanks to the deregulation on the use of the two-wheeler in April, anyone aged 16 or above can freely enjoy a ride without a license until April 2024. They will be allowed to run on sidewalks as long as they keep the speed to no more than 6 kilometers per hour.

A driver’s license and helmet used to be required for E-kickscooter users. An electric kickscooter falls under the same category as motorcycles in Japan.

The relaxing of the license requirement means the number of users will go up.

The single ride electric kickscooter has a very low guard and safe to use. You don’t need to have a great balance to use it.  Unlike bikes that take up a lot of space, e-kickscooters are also small and portable.

As the use of electric kickscooters is expected to peak in the months to come, businesses are seizing the opportunity.

Daiki Okai, president and CEO of Luup Inc., an e-kickscooter app provider said, “We’re developing a new vehicle.”

Luup Inc. is currently providing electric kickscooters for rent  in and around Tokyo and other major cities.
