Covid case count falling but health experts warn of possible flu outbreak this season.

People in Japan may be able to relax better as the number of Tokyo covid cases continue to fall. On Wednesday, the case count in Tokyo fell to 72,  down by  77 from a week before and below 100 for the fifth straight day.

Those who have been following the pandemic situation however, received a new warning from Infectious disease experts in Japan asking people to consider getting vaccinated against influenza amid a possible outbreak this flu season.

“It is necessary to make preparations, taking into account the flu outbreak in autumn and winter,” reads a recommendation by the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry’s advisory board in a document released on Sept. 27. Everyone is going to be really cautious about too much optimism.

The latest seven-day average of new cases in the Japanese capital stood at 88.7, down by 46.2 pct from a week before.The number of severely ill COVID-19 patients under Tokyo’s own criteria stood at 43, down by 12 from Tuesday. Thirteen infected people in their 40s to 90s were newly reported dead. Across Japan, 731 positive cases and 33 fatalities were newly reported. The daily infection tally stood below 1,000 for the seventh straight day.
Severely ill patients numbered 431, down by 31 from Tuesday, according to the health ministry.
