The cinch bag is making a comeback.

What would be the most you care about when shopping for a casual bag?

Is it design? functionality? material?

If you care for all three, Japanese fashion guru Issey Miyake is your man. When it comes to fashion, anything he designs is unique. It is difficult to second guess what he’s up to next. Miyake’s very successful Bao Bao line – from lucent and sensu to carton bags – has little in common with the new MOCCO knapsack available at stores starting this month.

Just like the classic cinch bag, the MOCCO knapsack is secured by a drawstring closure that runs along the top of the bag. The drawstring closure is also the handle for the bag worn as shoulder slings similar to a gym bag. But the MOCCO has also a short handle for when you want to carry it by hand.

Best known for using specially engineered technical fabrics, Miyake gave MOCCO a stylish form by using ropes, bamboos and vines. The result is a unique, light, washable soft bag in breathable mesh design. Whether you wear it as shoulder sling or carry it by hand, the MOCCO can transform any everyday outfit into something unique and functional,  and it’s also gender-neutral!
