A new research on the delta variant suggests it is the most contagious version of the coronavirus worldwide, spreading 225% faster than the original Sars-Cov2.

Currently dominating the outbreak in the United States, the variant grows at a higher speed inside respiratory tracts of those infected and to much higher levels, according to reports by researchers at the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the study, it takes only four days for the delta variant to be detectable inside a person while it is six days for the original coronavirus variant.

Scientists analyzed COVID-19 patients involved in the first outbreak of the delta variant in mainland China, which occurred between May 21 and June 18 in Guangzhou. The researchers measured the levels of virus in 62 people involved in that outbreak and compared them with the levels in 63 patients infected in 2020 with an early version of the virus.

These findings suggest delta variant carriers are likely spreading the virus in the early stages of the infection.
