The First Lego League, an international Lego robotics competition to be held in Japan scheduled in May, has been canceled on Monday over Coronavirus concerns.

The FIRST LEGO League competition is participated in by teams of children from 9-16 years old, based in Japan and 49 other countries using their STEM skills (guided by teachers as coaches) in problem solving, coding, engineering and research, using LEGO.

The global robotics competition showcases a diverse team of talents in Robot Games  and Innovation Projects aimed at building a sound future together. They are judged based on three awards structure which forms FIRST LEGO League’s ethos: Core Values, Innovation Project and Robot Design.

Programs are built around theme-based Challenges. The Core Values emphasize teamwork, discovery, and innovation. In Japan, it is run by FIRST Japan Youth Science and Technology Promotion Association(NPO法人 青少年科学技術振興会 FIRST Japan), a non-profit organization promoting science and technology to children.
