Cool Things To Do at the Ginza Sony Park With Teens

By on August 27, 2018

If you are parents of iGeneration or post millennial kids whose definition of a typical weekend involves staying indoors, ordering pizza and firing off emails or social media posts, you could use a few tips.

When it comes to entertainment, teens can be the hardest to please. They want to do and explore what’s considered cool and hip in their generation.  Did you know that there’s more to entertain them at the Ginza Sony Park than you can ever imagine?

Sony’s iconic building in bustling Ginza was torn down last year and the Japanese multinational corporation plans to erect a brand new Sony Building to open in 2022.  In the meantime, Sony has decided to use the 3,807-square-meter floor space as an experimental indoor park until September 24.  Here are some activities your teens will enjoy at the Ginza Sony Park.

ROLLER SKATING RINK

Located on the basement floor of the building, the neat skating rink designed with two people roller skating around a park while listening to music will remind visitors of Sony’s first generation Walkman®.  The facility will stay open until Sept 24 and there is no fee to experience roller skating here except that you need to rent a pair of shoes to use the facility.

Even you are a newbie to roller skating, eager-to-please professional instructors onsite will give both children and adults a crash course on how to roller skate.

If the kids feel like it, they can also watch the pros dance to lively music and simultaneous floor imagery.
On Saturday night, DJ TARO spins a raw mix of disco tunes to make roller skating fun and entertaining.

Open 10 am – 8 pm until September 24.   Admission:  10 people at a time

PARK LIVE

Park Live located on the B4 level is a space dedicated to music lovers where they can watch random concerts by local artists. Open only on Friday nights from 8 pm, artists performing for the day is announced through Ginza Sony Park’s official Instagram page.    It is free to watch with a purchase of one drink at the BEER TO GO by Spring Valley Brewery.

SONY AQUARIUM

A thousand sea creatures of 25 species swimming in a  5-meter wide giant aquarium is fascinating to watch if your children love nature. This includes a 1.2-meter long  Napoleon fish and 1.5-meter long spotted moray. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays ( 10:30, 17:00, 19:00 15 min.each), a guide from the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium where the fishes come from,  provides information about the sea animals.  Runs until September 9.

GAMES

What used to be the old Sony Building’s b3 parking lot is now a place where teens can immerse themselves in table-based board, card games, using of course Sony’s own Xperia Touch technology.

If your children love to be in the driver’s seat playing simulation games, Sony provides a dynamic experience from a cockpit of the Gran Turismo Sport where they can experience novel situations and put their thinking ability to a test in overcoming obstacles.  Runs from 10 am – 9 pm until September 24, 2018.  https://www.ginzasonypark.jp/e/program/003/
