By on August 30, 2023

Japan’s sole custody laws have been widely criticized for being the cause of child abduction but the system may be about to change.

Japan’s Justice Ministry on Tuesday presented a working draft giving divorced parents the option of shared custodial rights through dialogues.

The working draft has been submitted to the family law subcommittee of the Legislative Council advising the justice minister, for deliberation and revision of the Civil Code by early next year.
