Free admission to outdoor screening of family-friendly movie classics

By on August 29, 2023

Japan’s autumn season officially starts around mid September but for those of us in Tokyo, the autumnal vibes will not be felt until the second half of November.

This gives families a time to experience the quintessential crisp climate by going outside to watch outdoor films for free at the Hibiya Cinema Festival. The festival runs from October 13 (Fri) to 22 (Sun), 2023 at the Hibiya Step Square in Hibiya’s Tokyo Midtown.

The Hibiya Cinema Festival this year will be its 6th since it started in 2018. The screening line-up includes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which is attracting attention again with the release of its prequel “Wanka and the Chocolate Factory” and Harry Potter classics.

The viewing area is divided into six zones with different themes. The “relaxation zone” has a laid-back theme where people can watch movies lying down. People can also try the “step zone” where they can enjoy movies while talking with others. The “eating zone” has a cafe table where you can snack and drink while watching a film.

Autumn is all about the great outdoors and families will love the opportunity this event gives them to break away from the constant exposure to the digital world.
