Handpicked Japanese schools to start Generative AI Use on trial basis

Only selected Japanese schools well-prepared to handle various risks will introduce Generative AI tools (ChatGPT, etc.)  to students on trial basis, says the education ministry Tuesday.

To minimize the potential risks regarding exposure of personal information and spreading of false information, the ministry has deemed appropriate to limit its use for the time being.

A plan to review and evaluate the pros and cons of generative AI tools use at these selected elementary and high schools follows after the trial.  The guidelines to be issued will outline how ‘appropriate’ and ‘inappropriate’ use will be defined.

Submitting or entering a work for a contest entirely generated by an AI tool or  permitting students to use such tools in school tests and examinations are deemed inappropriate.
