For those with celiac disease and gluten intolerance, Tokyo can be a haven for things they can’t eat. So we scoured the internet to find the bakery items that have found their way to the hearts and stomachs of gluten intolerants.

Like much of any big city,  Tokyo has seen a rise in diners looking for gluten-free option. As a known producer of high quality rice grains, Japan, in general, has become much more welcoming.

One gluten-free bakery we found was Mercer Bis. It has five stores in central Tokyo: Shibuya, Ginza, Futako Tamagawa, Ebisu and Ikebukuro.

This French style pastry shop made it its mission to create light, beautifully composed cakes using rice flour and egg whites with silky frosting and fresh fruits.  The most popular flavor at the store is its caramel cake. Watch clip:

The store also offers seasonal specials for a limited period.

Three of its stores will be selling premium Mango Chiffon cake on July 6 (Shibuya) and July 13 (Ginza and Ikeburo).   Price: 3,000 yen (regular size) , 6,500 yen (large size).  Regular cakes are available anytime. But if you want a large size for a party or celebration, order in advance.
