Why you may have to pay more when you use Narita airport from September 2023

By on May 26, 2023

Japan’s Narita airport fees are set to rise for international passengers from September amid price and labor cost hikes, according to local media sources.

The new price increase that will result in higher travel fares for families, will be rolled out from September 1, 2023 . The increase will be added to the air fare, so you probably don’t realize that you’re paying it.

The cost of air fare issued from September 1 will reflect the new facility charge of 2,460 yen, (up by 330 yen) and 20 yen on passenger security service fee. Because Narita airport charges airlines per passenger, these charges are then passed on to travelers through fare increases.

As Japan rapidly recovers from the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the planned increase will help cover maintenance and keep the operations and security checks running efficiently at Narita airport.

NEW FACILITY CHARGE

TERMINALS 1 AND 2

The new price of 2,460 yen is for passengers aged 12 and above using Terminals 1 and 2 at Narita airport. Young travelers aged 2 until 11 will be charged a new price of 1,240 yen, up by 170 yen from the old price.

TERMINAL 3

Under the new rate, adults departing Terminal 3 would pay 1,370 yen, up by 330 yen. Children pay 690 yen (up 170 yen).

PASSENGER SECURITY SERVICE CHARGE

The passenger security service charge is set to rise to 550 yen (up by 20 yen) for all passengers using terminals 1 to 3.
