I took my wife to this swanky restaurant for our anniversary.

Let’s get real.

It’s not everyday that I can afford to treat my wife to a swanky meal.

But this year being our 20th anniversary (who stays married this long nowadays?), we deserve something out of the ordinary.

We are spoilt for choice when looking for fine dining options in Tokyo.  However overwhelming the choices are, the lure of a good porterhouse steak at Morton’s won the day.

Comfortable swanky seats, open glass windows overlooking Tokyo’s business district, relaxed and luxurious make up this vibrant dining room.

We started with a sparkling wine from California where all their 500 kinds of wine come from. As we look at the menu, my eyes light up as I see the prime porterhouse listed on the steak section.

Being so accustomed to Japanese sized meals, we were delighted to see our main entrees come in American standard hefty portions. My wife ordered the grilled oysters with garlic herbed butter (¥4,500) which was delicious. I ordered the bacon-wrapped sea scallops (¥3,200) and they were very good. There was more than the two of us could eat. Both are executed correctly and make a pretty good intro for our taste buds for more culinary joy.

The meal continues with an order of a 680-g prime porterhouse steak (¥25,000) medium rare  cut for the two of us. I opted for one masterfully combined with truffle butter for an extra cost (¥600). The meat was amazingly tender, juicy, and done with culinary perfection.

There are eleven desserts on the dinner menu: Fresh or mixed berries (¥1,500), New York style cheesecake (¥2,000), Morton’s chocolate layer cake (¥2,400), Key lime pie (¥1,700), Carrot cake (¥1,900), Double Chocolate Mousse (¥1,300), Haagen Dazs Ice cream (¥1,500), Sherbet (¥1,500) and Creme Brûlée (¥1,500), Morton’s Legendary Sundae (hot chocolate cake with Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and whipped cream topping ¥3,100), Morton’s Hot Chocolate Cake (with Haagen Dazs Ice cream ¥1,900) and Soufflé for two (chocolate, grand mariner, lemon, raspberry ¥1,900).  It took a while for us to decide. My wife went for the decent sized Morton’s Hot Chocolate Cake and I had the classic Creme Brûlée with a hint of liqueur.

Whatever comes next, we are more than satisfied with tonight’s dinner!
