Experts: Twindemic may happen in Japan. Get a flu shot.

By on July 1, 2022

Australia, the land down under, now heading into the middle of winter, reported 48,000 influenza cases in 2 weeks after 2 years of major declines.

The surge, believed to have been a result of a decrease in people with immunity (after an absence of an outbreak in the past two years) and  relaxation of anti-covid measures, is getting Japan worried as it heads into the flu season in a few months.

Experts are urging people to be vaccinated against the flu this season.

According to Australia’s Health Department, the number of flu patients in the country hits a peak around June to September in a typical year. There was no flu outbreak in 2020 or 2021.

This year, however, reports on flu cases started to increase rapidly in late April.
