Standout Japanese Beef Cutlet restaurant has just opened in Yokohama

By on February 7, 2022

This week, a newish beef cutlet restaurant opened its first store in Yokohama on the 6th floor of posh Sakuragicho Colette Mare shopping mall.

With more than 50 stores in Japan and no less than 20 overseas, Gyu Katsu, is the number one restaurant chain of Kyoto Katsugyu  for authentic and savory beef cutlet.

Unlike the more popular Tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) version where the cooking takes place in the kitchen, these classic Japanese beef cutlets are served already coated with a thin tempura batter, but you still need to stone grill the meat yourself.

Although crunchy on the outside, this medium rare marbled beef cutlet is tender with that melt-in-your-mouth texture. As with all set menus in Japan, an order comes complete with the classic comfort siders: shredded cabbage, a bowl of rice, pickles and miso soup.

The meat is best enjoyed with a special wasabi dip or plain rock salt to bring out the delicate umami flavor. A set menu costs from 1,300 yen but check out the website for when they do occasional 1,000 yen special offers.

Located just a minute away from the Sakuragicho station, this rustic style Japanese restaurant has a wide seating space that can accommodate families and groups. Although the place generally gets crowded at lunch time, your best bet is to come after peak hours. Try to get a seat by the window to get a full,  picturesque view of Sakuragicho.
