Yamazaki baked goods to get more expensive

By on November 2, 2021

Starting January 1, 2022, the price of 247 Yamazaki bread and other baked goods will go up by 7.3 % on average.

Japan buys wheat from South Canada and the United States which, according to a USDA report, are experiencing historic drought conditions.

The price of imported wheat is now up by 19% from last month. On top of that, some of the recent rise can also be attributed to higher costs for commercial bread makers.

Although rice is one of Japan’s staple food, a person’s annual average consumption of wheat-based food is 32 kg.
