Subaru’s first electric SUV is a looker!

By on November 12, 2021

Subaru’s first new SUV car named Solterra EV is coming to car showrooms in Japan, Europe, US, Canada,  North America and China by around mid-2022 as announced by the car maker on Thursday.

Just as its Latin name implies, “Sol” which means sun and “Terra” land, the good-looking and outdoorsy Solterra,  features the X-Mode AWD control system made to enhances the sense of security on rough roads. Subaru’s new “Grip Control” function, will enable the car to run at a constant speed while stabilizing the vehicle even on rough roads.

Solterra EV will have both front-wheel and all-wheel drive models. It may be a more compact version of other SUV models but there’s more than enough space for the monthly Costco run for two average sized adults and two pint sized people at the back.

Both models sport a 71.4kWh battery beneath the floor of the vehicle, which Subaru estimates will supply approximately 530km (329 miles) of range based on the WLTC standard in Japan. The all-wheel drive version will get 460km (286 miles) of range.

The images don’t show the actual trunk space but it is safe to assume that it could be  on the small side. Anyway, even if you have to cram in a Japanese stroller and all your groceries, you can fold the rear seats down to make some decent cabin space.

That’s what we know for now. The price including the detailed specs haven’t  been released yet but we will keep you posted!  In the meantime, check out the teaser video.
