Grand Central Oyster Bar offers the best of the fall season.

Modeled after one of New York city’s most spectacular restaurants with its famous vaulted ceilings, there is an unmistakable buzz to this dining place.

The hustle and bustle of the New York original has been translated perfectly.

The menu here is huge and a little overwhelming. Oysters are of course a must, clam chowder an institution and the pan roasts dreamy. Wonderful weekend sets offer shared items for all the family and ease the selection process. There is a lot of shucking going on and downing of Brooklyn beer for those old enough. The restaurant’s homely feel is a welcome change from the usual austere chicness of Tokyo’s oyster bars. Its trademark red and white checkered tablecloths make this an oyster restaurant for everyone. A suitably grand selection of raw oysters awaits from America, Australia and Japan, keeping the oyster aficionados at bay as well as the selection of “today’s catch” direct from Tsukiji.

Apart from the exemplary bowls of both New England and Manhattan clam chowder, cold, fried and smoked seafood platters, cooked oysters and clams, try the wasabi mashed potatoes for something a little different.

The desserts, among them cinnamon apple pie, chocolate mousse and hot fudge sundaes, have an old-fashioned feel and complement the meal perfectly. Weekends can be busy, so best to book to avoid missing out on the Kumamotos.

The Grand Central Oyster Bar is good all four seasons, but this fall is particularly worth your time to visit.

From now until December,  the restaurant features six mouth-watering dishes with a strong Asian theme. If you love seafood with hints of coriander, Thai seasoning, curries,  then this is your place.
