“No time to die” on the big screen in October

“No Time To Die”, Daniel Craig’s fifth film and the 25th in the Bond franchise, will premiere on October 1, 2021 (Friday) ahead of the United States.

It will come as a shock to Japan fans but Craig himself said in the fall of 2019 that this will be his last James Bond film.

The release date has been pushed back twice as a result of covid disruptions including losing Danny Boyle, the film’s original director.

In the film, James Bond was happily living a retiree’s life in a gorgeous home in Jamaica. The happiness was cut short when an old friend from the CIA, Felix Leiter, asked for help. Bond was asked to collect a package in Cuba. For friendship’s sake, he does his friend a favor and heads off to Cuba. Then trouble ensues.

James Bond is up against one of the most dangerous and mysterious villains in the series’ history. His name is Rami Malek, the recipient of the Academy Award for Best Actor in the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody”. His famous joke goes like this…”Mr. Bond, the mission for the 25th film will never be easy …”

Third-generation Japanese-American film director Cary Joji Fukunaga replaces Danny Boyle who left the project over a script dispute. Fukunaga is best known for Beast of No Nation, a 2015 American-Ghanaian war drama film he wrote, co-produced,  and directed. He also directed Maniac, an American psycho-dramedy web tv miniseries for Netflix starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill.

It will certainly be sad to see Craig leave his M16 role behind but his Japanese fans will thank him for his hard work – otsukaresama deshita!

Premier: Oct 1, 2021

Nationwide release date:  Oct. 8, 2021
