My children are crazy about this Disney movie on Netflix.

A very entertaining and memorable animated musical fantasy comedy-drama movie that I recommend parents to watch on Netflix with their children this holiday season is none other than “The Princess and the Frog”.

It’s nothing like the earlier stereotypical Disney prince and princess classics such as the Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella but the Princess and the Frog wins on its own.

I have two daughters and they absolutely adore “The Princess and the Frog”.  The movie has a hard working, ambitious and strong main character Tiana told in a 1912 New Orleans setting.

Aspiring to be a chef one day, Tiana works as a waitress for two local diners so she can save enough money to start her own restaurant, a dream she shared with her father.

If you are a mom like me raising her daughters to be independent and the best at whatever they choose to do in life without being a damsel in distress, Tiana fits the perfect role model. And did I tell you she’s also the very first black woman featured in the Disney princess roster?

Most of past Disney movies have followed the same old storyline, where the princess somehow finds herself in the hands of villains, where the brave prince must save her, then rescue the girl by the end, yet “The Princess and the Frog” is the opposite – it highlights women power.

The greatest takeaway from this charming Disney film is that children learn that life isn’t all about money and fun. It is also about taking responsibility by learning to own up to one’s self-undoing in order to be a better person. The story is simply adorable and it leaves a practical lesson to children that is – to be able to tell the difference between “wants” and “needs’.

The Princess and the Frog is definitely the movie for  children of today where a powerful female character is the star of the show.

(Note: You need to be hooked to a VPN in Japan to view this on Netflix USA or rent it on YouTube USA).
