A place where you can have an honest-to-goodness donburi meal!

Given the social distancing requirements at this time, families should really avoid long waits at restaurants. That doesn’t mean limiting your freedom of choice in food selection to take-out.
But one that’s best eaten fresh is donburi, Japan’s soul food. Donburi or rice bowl comes with many types of topping but one that you should absolutely try is a real Japanese seafood bowl at Tsukiji Shokudo Genchan. The set menu here is casual, reasonable, and above all, instant. A typical order takes no more than 3 minutes to arrive.
Hidden away in Ariake at the Tokyo Big Sight, the restaurant chain has 37 stores in and around Tokyo and Japan with plans to open its first overseas store in Hawaii soon. The place can fill up quickly during busy lunch hours. But if you get there 10 minutes before noon, there are plenty of tables so you’ll always have a place to sit and enjoy your food. They make food very attractive just like a display room at a department store. The food is top quality and prices are reasonable.
We tried the maguro donburi with minced tuna, omelet and it’s just like eating sushi from a bowl.  Another donburi type we ordered comes with nori flakes, shiso leaves and iikura which has a bolder flavor. Both are very delicious. We have had lunch here more than twice and the rice bowl toppings change each time depending on the catch of the day. Big eaters can ask for an omori serving of rice which is generally more than the regular serving. At dinner time, there are more food choices from the blackboard menu.
The restaurant has a wide range of set menu options which are all sure to satisfy your cravings. Even if you don’t read Japanese, just call the waiter and point to the food display outside for a smooth ordering experience.
Most kids will find something they like on the menu, which makes this spot perfect for a family meal or lunch-on-the-go. If  your kids haven’t tried it before, be sure to grab them a few ebi fries (crispy fried shrimps)!
