A remake of a highly successful TV show in the 70s, “Charlie’s Angels” returns to the big screen with a new generation of Angels. The racially diverse lead cast is quite refreshing to see.

Three female police officers turned private detectives played by Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska all put their magic appeal to advantage in order to nail the bad guys. That’s possible because society doesn’t expect good looking women to be capable.

Watching three strong, capable women working together to take down villains with their physical and mental prowess, sends out a powerful message to all  women today that they can succeed in a male-dominated job.

Back in the 70s,  girls may not have realized that the show was primarily intended to let men notice Sabrina, Jill, and Kelly run around in skimpy clothes which may have given out mixed messages about being a woman. In the new film, the angels are all pretty, makeup is slick, the clothes are stunning and the message is clearly the opposite of the sexy vibes seen in the original show.

Stewart rains on everyone’s parade as she transforms her trademark mumbly delivery into unexpectedly hilarious lines. Like a comical Brad Pitt character, Stewart’s Sabrina may not be clear on all things, but at the end of the day, she gets the job done!

In theatres Feb 21.  Ages 14+
