Google Unveils its new Direct Speech-To-Speech Translation System

Google AI Software Engineers Ye Jia and Ron Weiss have announced in their blog post,  a new speech-to-speech translation system called “Translatotron” designed to help people who speak different languages to communicate with each other.

Translatotron will convert what you say from one language to another while retaining the speaker’s vocal characteristics in translated speech, which makes the translation sound more natural as if the speaker was actually saying it in the target language.

“We hope that this work can serve as a starting point for future research on end-to-end speech-to-speech translation systems,” says Google’s brilliant AI engineers in their joint blog post.
