Early this month, GLICO, one of Japan’s largest purveyors of confectionery and dairy products, has started selling ICREO, a liquid type of baby formula milk developed with infants in disaster-struck areas in mind.

The ready-to-drink baby formula milk approved as a ‘special-purpose’ food by Japan’s Consumer Agency, addresses most of the problems experienced by grief-stricken moms in disaster sites unable to produce breast milk owing to stress and non-availability of clean hot water.

ICREO uses an aseptic 6-layered type of packaging that blocks light and oxygen to protect the product’s nutritional components making it a ready-to-drink formula that can be fed to babies straight away in times of of disaster. According to Glico, the mineral and sodium content mimics that of breast milk. A pack has a shelf life of 6 months and can be stored at normal temperature.

How to use:

(1) Prepare baby milk and sterilized feeding bottle.

(2) Insert the straw until the stopper part is hidden, slightly return to the front and close the hole.

(3) Bend the straw and pour the liquid milk into the feeding bottle.

(4) Add a nipple to the feeding bottle. There is no need to dilute with  hot water, and you can feed baby with it at normal temperature.  It is necessary to drink immediately after opening and throw away the leftovers.
