World’s Best Chocolate Cake

By on May 21, 2017

The dizzying number of industry competitors in Japan isn’t enough to stop Spanish patissier bubó BARCELONA from setting up shop in the land of the rising sun. The reason? It makes the best artisanal chocolate cake in the world.  In fact, it received the Best-chocolate-cake-in-the-world award in 2005 at the World Pastry Cup in Lyon, France, validating its reputation among gourmands and foodies all over the world.

Over the years, the patissier’s string of pastry shops have increasingly become a famous hangout for serious foodies in Barcelona where its story all began.

So what’s so special about this mythical cake, you might ask.

Well, unlike other patissiers that rely on fresh butter to fluff up baked goodies, Bubo Barcelona does it differently.  It uses light olive oil that makes Xabina, its award-winning 864-yen-a-piece sponge cake (with natural vanilla and cinnamon), less rich than one can imagine. It has the right balance of flavor and texture. The award-winning cake wrapped in thick chocolate mousse topped with its signature macaroon was featured at the annual chocolate trade show last year attracting global foodies and food critics.

We don’t want to give too much details away but the next time you are in Omotesando, you have to go and try it. Like me, you might end up becoming a Bubo convert!
