GyozaGyoza Stadium
The Gyoza Stadium at Namja Town in Ikebukuro’s Sunshine City is designed to be reminiscent of an old shopping street in the fourth period of the Showa era (mid 1960s). You will find traditional furnishings like bamboo stools, old-fashioned lighting, small shrines, stone statues and even shops selling traditional sweets and old newspapers. It was established in 2002 by Namco, a video game development company. Selected gyoza shops from Tokyo, Osaka, regional areas, and even Taiwan and China vie for your patronage with all the standard gyoza styles, as well as many innovative flavors such as cheese gyoza, garlic gyoza, gyoza soups and seasonal gyoza such as the asparagus gyoza. The gyoza stalls are decorated with glittering trophies and awards, each boasting their own expertise and originality in the art of gyoza. Whether it is the thickness of the gyoza pastry, the quality of the meat, the succulence of generous portions of the filling, or the secret recipe passed down through generations, there is something there for eveyone. Prices are perhaps a little steep at between 400 to 800 yen (3-4 pcs. of gyoza) depending on how exotic your selection.
