Tokyo Disneyland celebrates 40th anniversary despite rain

Tokyo Disneyland, the kingdom of dreams and magic, turned 40 on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

And just like all significant milestones to celebrate, Tokyo Disneyland’s 40th anniversary offering: Dream Go Round, kicked off with fun and frolic despite the rain.  

Although some of the attractions were cancelled on the day due to heavy rains, the year-long festivity is set to run until March 31, 2024 with new attractions.

Experience a new kind of daytime parade, festive decorations, exclusive merchandise, and special Anniversary-only food choices. 

Ticket sales for Disney Premier Access (2,500 yen) which allows visitors to selected attractions and entertainment at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea has begun.

Disney Harmony in Color Daytime Parade

This brand new attraction is a 12-float daytime parade presented by NTT Docomo with themes of adventure, courage, family bonds and friendship from various Disney and Pixar movies.

  • To a World of Colorful Dreams – Tinkerbell appears atop a rainbow-coloured float with dancers
  • Trying Everything – Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, Clawhauser from Zootopia
  • Finding Adventure – Russell, Dug, Carl and Kevin and her babies from Pixar’s ‘Up’
  • Showing Strength – Merida, Moana, Rapunzel and Pocahontas
  • Family Bonds – Miguel from ‘Coco’ and The Incredibles
  • With Your Best Friends – Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Pixar’s Toy Story films appear atop RC, Vanellope and Ralph from Wreck-It Ralph in her racing car, Big Hero Six San Fransokyo float
  • Dreams Come Together in Harmony – Mickey and Minnie Mouse with Disney friends dressed in their 40th-anniversary attire
  • Harbor Greetings “Let’s Celebrate with Colors”
  • Fireworks “Sky Full of Colors”

 

Club Mouse Beat Show – Tokyo Disneyland brings Disney characters of its films to life in this musical dance show at Tomorrowland. See the entire cast dressed in special anniversary costumes (from Mickey Mouse and friends down to the villains) dance to hip-hop, latin and pop tunes.

At sundown, these commemorative banners by the Cinderella castle glow in the dark.

Disney has everything figured out. For a mesmerizing and immersive fireworks experience, it has added 3D projection mapping featuring the iconic Disney characters along with classic Disney tunes.

Food and Drinks

Forewarned is forearmed.

With both parks offering fancy 40th-anniversary-only menus, expect the cost of food and drinks to be higher than pre-pandemic times. A pack of popcorn costs 400 yen. Sandwiches and other nibbles cost about a thousand three hundred yen but a proper lunch or dinner course menu at the East Side Cafe can set you back between 3,500 – 3,700 yen (adults) and 2,700 yen (children). Over at the Blue Bayou, course meals for children is 4,500 yen and 7,000 yen for adults.

Bringing in lunch is generally allowed but may only be consumed at designated picnic areas located at the entrance gate outside the park. You will not have access to microwave oven so use insulated portable containers to keep your food warm. Drinks in coolers that pull behind you will not be allowed past security but you can store them in lockers located at the Main Entrance (two inside the park and six outside the park) for 800 yen (Super-Extra large and Extra Large) 600 yen (Large) 500 yen (Medium) 400 yen (Small).
