Junior High School students take their first English Test today.

Third year – Junior high school students in Japan will take the Spoken English test online for the first time today as part of the education ministry’s national achievement test.

The 2023 nationwide achievement test, the first in four years, involves a total of 2,051,000 third year junior high and sixth-graders from around 28,600 public and private schools across the country.

All students are tested for their academic ability in the Japanese language and mathematics annually.

The English exam junior high schoolers aged 14-15 will be taking is divided into listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Fifty four thousand students from 500 junior high schools selected by the ministry to take the oral test online, will be using  PCs distributed under the ministry’s “giga school” initiative.
