Parents shouldn’t watch Babylon with their teens

Babylon starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie will be released in Japan on February 10 but parents shouldn’t watch it with their teens.

Set in 1920s Hollywood, Babylon is a story of debauchery and excesses of early cinema and the people in the industry. But it is also a movie that emphasizes the importance of cinema as an art despite the corruption, sacrifice and debauchery that went on behind the scenes.

In the United States, Babylon is rated R by the MPAA which means it’s not suitable to be seen by children because of violence, offensive language, or sexual activity.

In pulling back the curtain to show the wild, unrestrained sex, drugs, and violence of the industry during its transition from silent films into the talking era, writer-director Damien Chazelle wasn’t subtle.

Babylon was released in the United States on Dec. 23 last year and this is what one parent has to say.

“Awful torture sex scene descent into hell not needed. Felt depressed after seeing this movie. Wish I could erase it from my brain.”

“For that reason alone, I would not recommend it to anyone. My 17 year old thought it was awful too. We both wish we could erase what we saw from our brains,” she adds.
