The easy way to get rid of fruit flies

By on August 2, 2022

Fruit flies or gnats tend to annoy people during the summer months.  If you see too many of them flying around your kitchen, there could be a few reasons why.

You may have thrown banana peels in your trash and left the lid open. Before you had time to notice it, the fruit flies have laid hundreds of eggs in just a few hours.

Those eggs hatch into larvae, leaving you with too many gnats flying around the house. Fruit flies can lay about 500 eggs in a one week cycle.

Fruit flies love to hang out in moist environment with food waste,  fruits and vegetable peels.  They are also attracted to drains, garbage disposals, empty bottles and cans, trash bags, cleaning rags and mops.

Rather than spend money on insect spray, an equally effective way to get rid of them is to use a vinegar trap.

Pour about 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (not the sushi vinegar) because it’s a touch sweeter – into a coffee mug. You want the the cup to be slightly deeper so those pesky fruit flies won’t be able to exit easily once they’re inside!

For best effect, make several of these vinegar traps and place them around your kitchen.
