Pfizer or Moderna: Which booster shot is more effective against Omicron?

By on February 2, 2022

The discovery  of the Omicron variant in Nov 2021 raised concerns about whether fully vaccinated people should go for a booster shot for maximum protection.

According to three new studies by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, booster shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines have proven to be highly effective at preventing OMICRON-related hospitalizations.

On Wednesday, Rami Suzuki,  the head of  Moderna Inc.’s Japanese arm said in online interview with Jiji Press that Moderna booster vaccine will be effective in preventing novel coronavirus infections even six months after administration.

While most people have a preference for Pfizer booster shots, Moderna offers significant protection against breakthrough infections and hospitalizations.  A new research from data collected before Omicron hit shows Moderna’s vaccine may offer slightly better protection compared to Pfizer.
