By on February 8, 2022

Japan’s hospitals have been flooded by Omicron patients and inquiries about coronavirus tests amid the recent surge in infection.

To efficiently cope with the situation, the Tokyo metropolitan government is providing its residents free COVID-19 at-home antigen test kits for use by those in close contact settings with infected people who are self-isolating at home.

As of Tuesday, the metropolitan government has started accepting applications for the kits with rapid results so that people can self-test  in the comfort of their homes if and when they experience Covid-like symptoms.

Application should be made online http://www.tokyo-testkit.com/  by February 27  for the test kits to be  delivered directly to the applicant’s registered Tokyo address. The site is only in Japanese so you will have to use Google Translate to fill up the form correctly. You can apply for one kit at a time but limited to two per person within the application period.

The metropolitan government only accepts applications for up to 40,000 kits per day.
