Japan plans to provide 100,000 yen coronavirus support to children under 19

The government of Japan, members of the ruling LDP and its coalition partner Komeito, are considering to provide children under 19 with 100,000 yen support amid the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

The cash handout program at the center of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s economic stimulus package to be compiled by the new administration is open to options. These options up for discussion on Monday include setting an income cap or giving away part of the benefit in coupon form to cover child-rearing costs.

Since families with children have been hit hard by the prolonged pandemic, the government aims to speed up the economic package by Nov. 19.
