Encanto” is the first computer-animated musical fantasy comedy film by Disney in four years since “Moana and the Legendary Sea”.

The heroine in the story is Mirabel, a Colombian girl born to a family with magical powers. All the children in the Madrigal family who lives in an enchanted town in the mountains of Colombia, have a unique strength and healing power except for Mirabel. The children’s unique power ranges from the ability to lift two pianos lightly, communicate with animals as well as transform them into people. Bruno, Mirabel’s uncle gifted with the ability to see the future has doomsaying predictions that aren’t always well received by the rest of the family, so he disappeared long ago, becoming the uncle no one talks about. He’s an outsider but he also understands the world better because he always wanted to belong to it. One day, the powers came under threat which only Mirabel can solve.

The film is beautiful and enchanting with comedic scenes that are going to engage the child in you. Expectations are high for a new fantasy by two award-winning directors, Byron Howard (“Zootopia,” “Tangled”) and Jared Bush (co-director “Zootopia”), and co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”) including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Encanto features all-new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “Moana”) produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino. Bush and Castro Smith are screenwriters on the film.

“Encanto” opens in Tokyo theatres November 26, 2021.
