Japan considering to distribute vaccination tickets to all residents

By on January 26, 2021

Japan’s administrative reform minister Taro Kono assured the public on Monday that the government will be developing a tracking and inventory system to comprehensively manage data without delay, for use in the planned distribution of vaccination tickets to all residents.

People can present these tickets at medical institutions in order to get vaccinated against the new coronavirus.

The tickets to be issued by municipal governments will have a number that corresponds to a resident’s ‘My Number’ (used for social security and taxation purposes).  This number and resident’s information will be registered by medical institutions when vaccines are administered to residents.

Two doses of the novel coronavirus vaccine are required for enhanced efficacy with the second dose administered a certain period after the first one.

The planned tracking system hopes to be able to respond to various circumstances such as people moving after the first vaccination or those losing their vaccination tickets.
