IKEA Japan announced on June 16 that it will open the second urban store in Shibuya this winter.

The opening date isn’t fixed yet. IKEA Shibuya store will be located on the same building where Forever 21 used to be. The 4,800 sqm 7-storey building is a 5-minute walk from JR Shibuya Station.

Helen von Rice, Ikea’s President and Chief Sustainability Officer said, “I look forward to seeing more people in Tokyo as we continue to open stores in the city center. Shibuya is the center of Tokyo’s development.  It’s a place where the future is created, and we’re very happy to be a part of it. This 7-storey store is an extension of the IKEA concept in IKEA Harajuku that opened the other day.  You can enjoy shopping for furnishings and  products that are convenient for urban living, either at the store or online. You can also enjoy sustainable food. Please look forward to the opening of  our Shibuya store.”

In living up to its commitment to become a sustainable company that is more consumer-friendly, convenient, and environmentally and socially friendly, IKEA announced that it will continue to invest in new stores in the city center, online shopping and services.

In February 2020, IKEA Japan opened “IKEA FOR BUSINESS”, its first planning space for corporate and business owners. IKEA Japan will be employing 170 regular staff (including part-time regular employees) for the opening of the Shibuya store.
