The SARS-CoV-2 can also spread through poops, suggests new study.

The novel coronavirus strain SARS-CoV-2 (the virus’s official name that causes the COVID-19 disease), has now infected nearly 76,000 people.

The most common transmission route is through respiratory droplets and contact with infected patients. But a new report on Feb 15 published by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, suggests it can also spread through poops which explains the rapid rise in cases.

The results of the tests “confirm that COVID-19 patients have live virus in stool specimens.” This means that stool samples may contaminate hands, food, water, etc., and may cause infection.

WHY YOU SHOULD AVOID USING PUBLIC TOILETS (AND YES, EVEN IN JAPAN)

Kimberly

A toilet is a breeding ground for bacteria. When we  leave the toilet lid up when we flush, bacteria fly up in the air, landing on areas not safe for our well-being. This is also one of the reasons why you shouldn’t sit on a western style toilet.

Not all toilets are equal. The typical toilet has a lid. Some do not and are mostly found in public toilets at train stations in Japan. Flushing toilets create airborne mists of feces free to fly 2 meters high and land on surfaces.  And frankly, no one knows how often a public toilet is cleaned.

STAY SAFE. CLEAN YOUR TOILET ALWAYS.

The toilet is one of the most germ-ridden areas of the home. Every time you flush it, the waste in your toilet mixes with the flushing water sending plumes of microbes into the air. These can land on toilet seats, lids and other surfaces. Always clean your toilet with a disinfecting solution as often as necessary.
