FlyStation Takes Fun To New Heights

By on April 17, 2019

Imagine freefalling from the 7th floor of a building without feeling the slightest pain.

That’s what indoor skydiving is about.

Indoor skydivers look like astronauts floating around in space, spinning around doing flips, manipulating air and simply having fun.

At Fly Station in Koshigaya, nearly anyone from age 4 up can experience the same fun and excitement that comes with what is fast becoming a popular sports in the world.

Everyone who has been to FlyStation rave about the unique experience of soaring 60 feet high and floating on air in a safe environment. The Gravier family is no exception. They booked a 60-second flight each with 5-year old son. Tom says, “You go to a place like this for fun and freedom. Families should try it at least once in their life.”

Newbies who are scared of flying high at a fast speed and plummeting to the ground while a massive blast of air hits you (inside the chamber) may not be the best crowd to convince but Tom Gravier begs to disagree.

“There’s nothing to be scared about.”

“The experience is no different from sticking your head out of a car window running at full speed. It’s just that having a helmet, earplugs and goggles on while handling the strong sensation of wind, makes it comfortable.”

According to Takahiro Ishida, the sales person at FlyStation, no previous experience is needed to enjoy indoor skydiving because inside the wind tunnel, it will just be you and a professional instructor who has your back for the whole duration of the 60-second flight. This means not all the members of the family can be in one flight.

To make the most of your indoor skydiving experience at FlyStation’s vertical wind tunnel, Ishida points out, “body form is key.”

“It is important to keep your chin up, arms reached in front with elbows bent and legs extended back with knees slightly bent.”

First, the instructor holds your body and then lets you go and fly away. You can fall but the instructor pulls you back in. If you find yourself up in the ceiling, you can just put your head up and come back down safely. If you have any back issues or have ever had a dislocated shoulder, then this sport/experience is not for you.

The instructor briefs you with hand signals so he could communicate with you to bend, straighten or put your chin up while you are in the noisy chamber. It is so loud in side the wind tunnel you couldn’t hear anything so it is important you got familiar with the signals prior.

“People who, for some reason, are not able to do chin-ups, won’t be admitted,” says Ishida.

The overall experience flying with raised elbows may give you aching shoulders the next day but the fun factor is real.
