Did you know that these prolific record title holders are from Japan?

MASAO MATSUMOTO AND MIYAKO SONODA

Japanese couple from Oita Prefecture, Masao Matsumoto born on July 9, 1910 and Miyako Sonoda born on November 24, 1917 have been married since October 20, 1937.  They officially became the WORLD’S OLDEST LIVING MARRIED COUPLE who have been together for 80 straight years. In July this year, Masao turned 108 years old and Miyako turned 100 in November 2017. The couple has 5 daughters, 13 grand children and a great-grandchild born last month.

ISAO MACHII

Dubbed as the ‘Modern Samurai’ by History Channel,  5 Guinness World Record titles holder Isao Machii from Hyogo Prefecture has carved a name for himself  with a new record  for “MOST MARTIAL ARTS KATANA CUTS IN ONE MINUTE (Rush Straw)“.  Machii who won the record with a total of 87 precise samurai sword cuts at age 44 started honing his craft at the age of 5.

TAKERU KOBAYASHI

Nagano-born Takeru Kobayashi is perhaps someone you don’t want to invite to an all-you-can-eat buffet. Famous for being a competitive eater, he holds many records, including eight Guinness Records, for eating hot dogs, meatballs, Twinkies, tacos, hamburgers, pizza, ice cream and pasta.  In this video clip, watch how 38-year old Kobayashi downed 12 hamburgers in 3 minutes at the Guinness World Records Italian Show beating Italian Vittorio Noschese who is much younger than him.

 

DAIFUKU

Daifuku, a female Jack Russell Terrier sets a record with the MOST JUMPS OVER A MOVING HUMAN LEG BY A DOG IN 30 SECONDS with help from her owner Hiroaki Uchida. Daifuku is one of a team of dogs at the Super Wan Wan Circus entertaining people in Fuji, Japan for more than 50 years.  Its world record breaking acts include “Most Dogs Skipping On The Same Rope” and “Most Rotations Around A Human Neck By A Dog In 30 Seconds.”

 

MASAZO NONAKA

Masazo Nonaka from Ashoro Hokkaido was Guinness-certified as  THE OLDEST PERSON LIVING (MALE) at the age of 112 years in April 2018.  The super centenarian was born on July 25, 1905  at the beginning of the massive Russo-Japanese War’s second year.  Masazo takes the world-breaking title after the death of Francisco Nuñez Olivera from Spain at age 113.
