Mental health: NPO raises funds for crisis Lifeline serving Japan’s international community

By on August 21, 2018

TELL, an NPO that has championed mental health and well-being in Japan for over 45 years, will host the second annual fund-raising event, TELL Tokyo Tower Climb,  on Sunday, September 9 as part of its global activities to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.

Proceeds from the event help fund TELL’s volunteer-staffed Lifeline, a critical crisis intervention resource for Japan’s international community that receives over 8,000 calls a year from English- speaking expats and bilingual Japanese nationals.

To mark World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10), people all around the globe will walk, march or run to “take a step” to remove stigmas around mental health. The TELL Tokyo Tower Climb offers an exciting chance to race up one of Tokyo’s most iconic structures while giving back to a life-saving cause. The challenge is a one-at-a-time time trial for up to 500 participants, spanning 600 steps from the base of the tower to the Observation Deck.

New to this year’s event is the School Cup. Each company and individual who joins the TELL Tokyo Tower Climb helps raise awareness toward suicide prevention and funds for TELL’s Lifeline, a critical crisis intervention resource for Japan’s international community.
