Yes, siree. The concept may sound bizarre and implausibe but the finished product is here.

Japanese luxury car brand Toyota Lexus made from corrugated fiberboards that actually runs, was announced in August this year.

From body and interior down to its tires, the first origami Lexus is cardboard-heavy in design, according to the creative hands at LaserCut Works and Scales and Models.

The whole process of intricately putting together 1,700 pieces of 10 mm-thick carton panels using a water-soluble wood glue to create the body, the logo-stamped wheel hubs, and the ridges on the leather seats, took three months to finish. “That’s because you can not change anything after the glue has dried up and so accuracy was important,” explains the team.

“Every piece of cardboard was given a reference number to ensure that the car was assembled in the right order, and each piece had to set for 10 minutes before it could be moved,” Lexus says.

Now watch how they did it.
